Ford%u2019s Global Vision Hits Home
No doubt you have seen Ford releasing their global platforms on several new
models and vehicle lines.
The sixth generation Fiesta arrived in 2010 (it%u2019s name goes back to 1976), and
is based on the Verve concept B-platform. It%u2019s available in 4 door sedan and
hatchback %u2013 the Lime Squeeze colour definitely stands out in a crowd! It was
among the first Ford models to introduce the Eco-boost turbocharged engines.
Also arriving in 2010 was the Focus %u2013 introduced in 1998, it is in its 3rd
generationC platform). The Focus is presently the world%u2019s best selling model.
Watch out for the 250 hp ST model at your local dealer.
Probably the most interesting model updated is the new Escape. Newly restyled
for 2013, it is a complete makeover of the boxy design that carried the
nameplate since 2001. The CD2 platform is based on the European Ford Kuga, with
a shapely exterior and upgraded interior. It is already ahead of last year%u2019s
monthly sales.
Similarly, the Fusion has been completely redesigned for 2013 %u2013 The design is
from Ford of Europe, with styling cues from the Aston Martin-esque front to the
Jaguar-like roof line. Production of the Fusion first started in 2006, and the
2013 marks the second generation of the CD4 platform shared with the Lincoln
lineup. Watch the new Fusion in Nascar Sprint Cup.
Coming soon %u2013 the 2015 Mustang. Ford has been very careful not to reveal any
styling details yet, although a few consumer groups have been able to comment on
pre-production models. Based on the Evos concept, it will have styling cues with
the Mustang grille, side scoops, fastback and tail panel. It will be very
interesting to see what they bring to Mustang%u2019s 50th anniversary
party.
I really hope they can work some magic on the Taurus!
Staying ahead of the pack
